The states are planning to report estimates from their own data systems more frequently to smaller geographic regions. The past MRFSS data was reported every 2 months to the state level. For example, California is now reporting monthly to six geographic districts so there are 6x12=72 spatio-temporal sets of estimates (cells). California also reports by 13 trip types within each cell so there are 936 total cells where there were 12 cells in the MRFSS (2 subregions x 6 waves). Each cell is furtber subdivided into four fishing modes and three marine water areas, so the actual total number of reporting cells has gone from 144 in the MRFSS to 11,232 in the CRFS each year. California has increased sampling to support the higher resolution.
