Historical Note

Two fishermen with their day's catch at Cuffey's Cove, Mendocino County, about 1890. When the first coastwide study of the northern and central California marine sport fishery was made in the early 1960s, the fishery resources had already been subject to sport and commercial fishing for many decades. Anecdotal evidence such as this photo spark the imagination on how rich the fishery resources may once have been. (Photo courtesy Mendocino Historical Research Inc.)
