Several College of the Redwoods marine biology students have volunteered to assist our projects in data collection and processing. Our volunteer program is intended to mutually benefit our sportfishing projects and the volunteers themselves. We receive assistance, and the students gain experience and college credits. Students in the College's Marine Sciences program are ideal candidates and come already well prepared for many of the work duties.
The volunteers gain experience in basic data collection, data entry, and error checking. We want their experience to simulate actually being employed by the Department of Fish and Game. - WV
