The summarize sample data tool at
http://www.psmfc.org/recfin/forms/samp.htm has been updated for Y2K
issues and has two new functions as well.
1) "Marine Area" now has an option for "San Francisco Bay". This
function works differently depending on what year you start your
analysis. This is due to the enhancement of adding a code just for San
Francisco Bay in 1993 (area='N'). Before that time, the Bay was coded
as bays in general (area=4). For analysis years starting before 1993,
San Francisco Bay is defined as any inland fishing in these counties:
Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Yolo, Solano, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Contra
Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Francisco. For analysis
starting years from 1993 onward, San Francisco Bay is defined as any
trips with the area='N' code for the majority of effort. There is a
footnote that explains which method was used for the anlysis.
2) "Table Values" now has an option for "Catch per angler (A)". This
calculation merges the type 1 records (interviews) with the type 3
records (examined catch). The merging occurs after any summarization
by column and row for the table. The calculation is the sum of fshinsp
(fish inspected by interviewer) divided by the sum of cntrbtrs (number
of contributing anglers). The result is multiplied by 1000 so that
whole numbers can be displayed as "Examined catch (Type A) per 1000
Anglers"
